Local
RSPCA say huge “Thank You”
to Tesco shoppers
The local
Macclesfield, SE Cheshire & Buxton branch of the RSPCA
would like to say a huge “Thank You” to all those who donated
to the RSPCA collections during RSPCA Week.
From 26th April to 2nd May, RSPCA collectors raised a tremendous
£4274.97
the highest amount ever raised by this branch from a collection.
Local volunteers
held collections at Tesco Congleton,
Tesco Extra and Tesco Metro both based in Macclesfield.
They were delighted at the public support they received
and grateful to Tesco who allowed them to collect outside their stores.
Branch secretary Denise Smith said
“Without the support of Tesco
we wouldn’t have been able to get such a huge number of donations.
It was a fantastic opportunity for which we are very grateful”.
And the local
collectors weren’t alone.
Many were joined by their furry friends, including Meg,
a terrier cross who is currently in the care of the RSPCA
looking for a new home. One of the collectors commented:
“Not only was it fantastic opportunity to raise money,
but it also gave some of our dogs the opportunity to get lots of
attention –
we are sure a waggy tail from our companions
helped raise a few more extra pounds!!!”

It took a lot of
organization with 64 shifts arranged over 7 day period
in 3 stores but RSPCA volunteers say it was worth it.
Research shows more animals than ever are being given up for rehoming,
the cases of neglect and abuse are rising ever year,
and with the increasing costs of vet bills and boarding fees,
it is vital that the local branch continue to raise more money.
“We couldn’t survive without the kind donations from the general
public,
we are so grateful for their generosity,
the more we raise, the more animals we can help”

The RSPCA currently
have several voluntary vacancies in fundraising,
events coordination and administration.
If you have some spare time and would like to help animals in need,
